Interxion expands in Frankfurt to meet growing demand from cloud sector

Interxion to open FRA8 data centre

FRANKFURT, 15 May 2014 Interxion Holding NV (NYSE: INXN), a leading European provider of cloud and carrier-neutral colocation data centre services, today announces the opening of another data centre in Frankfurt Rhein-Main. With FRA8, Interxion is extending its data centre campus in Frankfurt, Germany - one of the best connected data centre hubs in Europe.

Interxion is thus successfully continuing its sustainable expansion to address increasing demand for highly available, energy efficient and secure infrastructure. The opening was attended by Peter Feldmann, Mayor of the City of Frankfurt, Tarek Al-Wazir, Minister of Economics, Transport, Urban and Regional Development for the State of Hessen, and City Councillor Markus Frank, City of Frankfurt Department of Economics, Personnel and Sport.

FRA8 is particularly interesting for large, international cloud providers due to the dense concentration of so many network operators and its close proximity to the core infrastructure of DE-CIX, the world's largest Internet exchange point , hosted by Interxion. Interxion operates one of the largest data hubs in all of Europe. Such facilities ensure that infrastructures remain in Germany and under German data protection law, helping to avoid emigration abroad and contributing to economic growth in the area.

With a total area of 3,600m2, FRA8 is the largest data centre Interxion has ever built in Germany. The first construction phase provides 900m2 of equipped space. One special feature of FRA8 is the use of adiabatic cooling. This process utilises the cooling that occurs during the evaporation of rain water for air conditioning and thus significantly increases the energy efficiency of the data centre. The new data centre thus offers a cutting-edge infrastructure that conserves energy and is specially designed for fail-safe and sustainable operation of business-critical applications and systems.

Interxion has been recording stable growth rates and investing more and more in the expansion of its data centre solutions in the last few years. Interxion provides its customers with the latest highly secure, scalable infrastructure within 9 autonomously operated but interconnected cloud and carrier-neutral data centres. Combined, these sites offer more than 12,500m2 of maximum equipable space.

"By expanding our site in Frankfurt and opening FRA8, we are clearly committing ourselves to the role of being an innovation catalyst and enabler for IT innovations such as cloud computing, Big Data, mobility and Industry 4.0," says Peter Knapp, Managing Director of Interxion Germany GmbH . "The ICT industry plays a key role in the growth of German industry as a whole. Our aim is to strengthen Germany as a business location and prevent an exodus abroad by building a highly available digital infrastructure," he adds.

Open and operational on May 15, 2014
The opening will be accompanied by Tarek Al-Wazir, Minister of Economics, Transport, Urban and Regional Development for the State of Hessen, and City Councillor Markus Frank, City of Frankfurt Department of Economics, Personnel and Sports.

"Expansion of the digital infrastructure in Frankfurt/ Main is the prerequisite for technological innovations," said Peter Feldmann, Mayor of the City of Frankfurt/ Main, at the Press conference. "Interxion's data centres serve as the basis for expanding digital communication and information technologies that represent the motor for the city's innovativeness and competitiveness and increase the appeal of the business site for many companies from different industries," he added.

Tarek Al-Wazir, Minister of Economics, Transport, Urban and Regional Development for the State of Hessen, explained on the evening of the opening celebration: "We have realised the immense potential of the digital market and are massively driving our efforts to establish the digital infrastructure forward. Furthermore, as the state government, we strongly support the expansion of data centres."

"Numerous companies are currently attending to the continued strong demand for space for high-performance computers from banks, insurance companies, game vendors, dealers, industrial companies and IT companies, inside the city of Frankfurt's boundaries. Frankfurt/ Main is benefiting greatly from the strong commitment of the companies that operate data centres because the advantage in the digital network is increasingly making a difference compared to other locations. In Frankfurt/ Main, the companies based here are finding the technological infrastructure they need in order to successfully participate in globally networked business transactions," emphasised City Councillor Markus Frank, City of Frankfurt Department of Economics, Sports, Security and the Fire Department.
